Check where image processing happens
Some online tools upload an image to a server so it can be processed there. Others process the selected file in the browser. Before using either kind, read its privacy information and look for a clear explanation of whether image files are uploaded, stored, or shared.
Browser-based processing can keep the image bytes on your device for the image operation, but it does not automatically mean a website collects no other information. A site can still use hosting logs, analytics, forms, or other services.
How shrinkpixel handles selected images
shrinkpixel decodes and encodes selected images in your browser. The image bytes are not sent to shrinkpixel's servers for processing. Previews and output files are held temporarily in the browser while you use the tool.
When analytics are enabled, the site measures page views and image-tool events such as processing started, completed, failed, or downloaded, along with the selected operation mode. These events do not include image contents or file names. The hosting provider may also process ordinary technical request information to deliver and secure the site.
Good habits for sensitive files
- Read the service's privacy policy, especially its sections on uploads, storage, analytics, and third-party forms.
- Use a tool that explains its processing path clearly. If you need to verify a claim, you can monitor your browser's network activity while processing a sample image.
- Keep the original file and avoid submitting sensitive details through a site's feedback form unless you are comfortable sharing them.
